 1.   The High Commission of India announced disbursement of nearly RM 2,00,000/- as financial assistance under Indian Scholarship and Trust Fund (ISTF) to 64Malaysian-Indian students who are studying in various Universities in Malaysia.

2.   ISTF was created in 1946 by the Late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, as a Trust Fund and High Commissioner of India was designated as the sole Trustee of the Indian Scholarship Fund.  Additional amounts were addedto this Trust Fund in subsequent years and two significant additional contributions were from two former Prime Ministers i.e. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr. Manmohan Singh.  The annual interest accrued on the principal amount of this Trust Fund is utilized for grant of scholarship to Malaysian-Indian students every year.  This is the 69th year of the Trust’s activities.

3.   This year also the High Commission received a large number of applications and after scrutiny of all applications,the Selection Committee members, comprising of eminent personalities from different fields in Malaysia and chaired by Tan Sri Prof Dr. T. Marimuthu, decided to award financial assistance to 64economically deserving and meritorious students.  The other members of the Selection Committee include Tan Sri Dato’ Ajit Singh, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. M. Thambirajah, Mr. Sathish Ramachandran and Datuk Dr. Achaiah Kumar Rao.
