Launching of Online Service Portal by Election Commission of India for Enrollment of NRIs
Election Commission of India is examining the feasibility of extending voting rights to overseas electors through E-postal ballot or proxy voting. Meanwhile simultaneously initiatives are being taken up under ECI’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme to reach out to the Non-Resident Indians to facilitate their registration in the electoral roll.
The low electoral participation among the embassy officials has also been a matter of concern for the Commission. ECI is taking up initiatives to reach out to these Service Voters and consultative meetings have already been taken up with senior officials from MEA, on the subject of Service voters as well as NRI registration.
In line with this commitment, the Commission has recently launched the online service for the citizens called the National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP) www.nvsp.in to facilitate the Indian citizen. The NVSP portal shall be of immense use to the Non-Resident Indians as the portal provides online registration facility besides all other services related to electoral registration i.e. correcting entries or change in address, searching name on electoral roll.
