1. The High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, Shri T.S. Tirumurti visited the Military Memorial site at the picturesque Morib Beach on 9th September, 2014. He was accompanied by Colonel Praveen Chhabra, Defence Advisor in the High Commission of India.
2. The Memorial had been erected to commemorate the landing of the 23rd Indian Division and 25th Indian Division on Morib Beach, exactly 69 years ago. The 46 Indian Beach Group facilitated the landing of 42,651 personnel, 3,968 vehicles and 11,224 tons of stores. The Morib landing signified the end of the Second World War in the region. Several Indian Divisions had participated as a part of the Allied Forces in the Malayan Campaign during the Second World War and suffered the largest number of casualties. Many of these regiments continue to this day in the Indian army.
3. This historical event was commemorated by the local Indian community of Morib at a grand function organized at the site of the memorial. Several leaders of the local Indian community were present, including Kuala Langat MIC Division Chief, Mr S. Bathumalai
4. Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner of India paid tribute to the Indian army for its valour and sacrifices in Malaysia during the Second World War and commended the soldiers of both India and Malaysia for fighting shoulder to shoulder in defence of Malaysia, against tremendous odds. The High Commissioner emphasized that these Memorials are a testimony to the shared military history and events between the two countries. He also recalled the contribution of the Indians and Malaysian Indians to the Indian National Army of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the inspiring role of Late Puan Sri Captain Janaki Athi Nahappan, who was honoured by India with Padma Shri Award. The High Commissioner thanked the local administration and the local Indian community for the upkeep and maintenance of the Memorial, which serves to keep the sacrifices of soldiers alive in our memory. He underlined that there were several more such sites in Malaysia which had witnessed battles during Second World War.
