Celebration of India’s 72nd Independence Day

The High Commission of India celebrated the 72nd Independence Day of India on 15 August in Kuala Lumpur. The celebrations commenced in the morning at the India House with the Indian High Commissioner Mr. Mridul Kumar hoisting the Indian tricolor which was followed by the National Anthem. The High Commissioner addressed the guests and read out excerpts from the Hon’ble President’s address to the nation. The event also saw mesmerizing cultural performances, including rendition of patriotic songs by enthusiastic school children, which were appreciated by the members of the Indian community.

An evening National Day Reception in the evening was held at KLCC and was attended by over 1200 well-wishers of India in Malaysia. Dato’ Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, Hon’ble Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. YB Tuan M. Kulasegaran, Hon’ble Minister of Human Resources; YB Tuan Dr. Xavier Jayakumar Hon’ble Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources; YB Tuan Sivakumar Rasiah, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development; Ambassadors/High Commissioners, Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Exco Members, senior officials of the Government of Malaysia, captains of the industry and the members of the Indian community were present at the Reception. Scintillating Indian traditional and contemporary dances performance and Bollywood songs by renowned Malaysian artists were keenly watched by the guests.
