Celebration of the 72^nd ICCR Foundation Day

• The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre celebrated 72^nd ICCR Foundation Day on 29 April 2022
• ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) was founded on 9th April 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of India with the objective of fostering and strengthening cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and the world, and to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and with their people. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre was set up in Kuala Lumpur in February 2010.
• The event commenced with lighting of lamp followed by an invocation song. A special video message from Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President, ICCR was screened. Director of NSCBICC, Ms. Ramya Hiriyannaiah, delivered the welcome remarks and highlighted the numerous diverse cultural outreach activities of NSBCICC over the last 12 years. High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy, highlighted Malaysia’s thriving cultural landscape and the significant role of NSBCICC in synergizing the activities of the various cultural organizations in Malaysia. HC stated that NSBCICC will shortly have a dance teacher and yoga instructor in addition to commencement of Hindi and Sanskrit classes.
• Chief Guest, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Santhara J.P, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture, addressed the audience stating that Malaysia and India have shared a long history of friendship. He noted that Indian Diaspora in Malaysia continues to actively promote Indian art and culture and remain connected to their roots. The Minister was happy to note that ICCR offers numerous scholarships every year to Malaysian nationals across various streams. The Minister hoped that the new Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) with India can soon be concluded as it would be timely as India and Malaysia celebrate 65 years of bilateral diplomatic relations. The Minister hoped that NSBCICC can join MOTAC in celebrating Indian festivals.
• Padma Shri Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, Founder of Sutra Foundation highlighted his close linkages and partnership with ICCR and NSBCICC. He was deeply appreciative of the Indian art traditions and culture and highlighted that NSBCICC’s important role in bringing together diverse artistes and cultural organziations. Dr. Krishna Gopal Rampal, ICCR Distinguished Alumni stated that he benefited from ICCR scholarship way back in 1969 which enabled to him to dedicate last five decades to public service and health care. Dr. Paranjyothi, President, Temple of Fine Arts (TFA), stated that TFA will continue to closely collaborate with NSBCICC in promoting Indian art and culture in Malaysia.
• Marking the ICCR Foundation Day, several alumni of NSBCICC came together to present a melodious Carnatic music concert, beautiful Kathak performance and engaging yoga demonstration.
