  • When should you get your passport reissued?

  • PASSPORTS VALID FOR LESS THAN SIX MONTHS:
  • Many international travelers may not realize that having an unexpired passport is sometimes not enough to obtain Visas or to enter certain foreign countries. Indian citizens traveling on Passports which may expire in less than six months should renew their passports before any upcoming international travel. It is especially important to check the passports of any minor who may be accompanying their parents as passports for minors have a shorter validity period (5 years) than passports for adults (10 years).
  • EXHAUSTION OF VISA PAGES:
  • Some countries do not accept passports which may have fewer than two pages remaining. Please check your passport to ensure that you have enough pages for visa fixation. There is no provision for additional booklets/pages and you will be required to apply for reissue of passport following standard procedures. Frequent travelers may opt for a Jumbo Passport containing 60 pages.
  • CHANGE OF PERSONAL PERTICULARS:
  • For amendments in personal particulars at bio-pages (laminated pages) of Passport, applicants are required to apply for a fresh passport as amendments/endorsements on the existing passport are not permitted. It is as per the requirement for International travelers for Machine Readable Passports. (Click here for more details)
  • What should be the validity of a passport on the date of travel?
  • Minimum validity 06 months is recommended.
  • What are the normal processing times?
  • Processing times vary for different categories. Under normal circumstances, minimum processing time is one week. However, it is also subject to clear police verification from India on your Indian address.
  • Till what time a passport could be submitted for reissue before the date of expiry?
  • The passport can be submitted for reissue up to 1 year before the date of expiry
  • Can I apply for additional pages in my passport / additional booklet?
  • Applicants are required to apply for reissue of passport on exhaustion of pages.
  • Is it mandatory to have Police Verification at the time of reissue of passport?
  • As per the current guideline, Police Verification is a must in all the cases of reissue of passports. Applicants are therefore advised to furnish the current Indian address for verification. Incorrect address may cause delay in the issuance of passport. The police station in India must be selected carefully as per the Indian address.
  • Once police verification is launched, applicants get information in this regard on their e-mail. Applicants are advised to contact their respective police stations if no information received about police verification within three weeks.
  • Is my passport fee refundable?
  • Fees once paid are not refundable
  • Do I need a valid passport and valid visa to get my passport renewed?
  • Yes, except for recalibration cases. ( Click Here for more information)
  • Can I hold two passports or one passport & one EC at a time?
  • No, holding two Indian travel documents (Passport and/or Emergency Certificate) at a time is not allowed. It is violation of law inviting punitive action.
  • Can I hold a Malaysian and Indian passport at a time?
  • No, you cannot hold Indian passport along with the passport of any other country. Indian passport should immediately be surrendered to the Indian mission after acquisition of passport of any other country.
